Be that tree

As many of you may know now, Mr J and I decided we would homeschool our children. Previously I had been doing my own thing, but this year we decided to start using the sonlight curriculum. Today’s homeschool topic really spoke to me. I mean, we have been doing the same topic since the beginning of the year… the topic is trees.

Yup, that right, trees.

Now I know you are thinking what I thought at the beginning. How can I teach trees for 3 weeks, what is there to really talk about for 3 weeks. But I am surprisingly shocked at how much I am enjoying this topic. What shocked me even more was how many bible texts there are about trees. It made me think, if God refers to trees so much , there must be a reason… I know God doesn’t do coincidence so I thought I would give the tree topic a chance.

As I re-capped everything we have learnt so far, with my girls, it dawned on me why God wants us to learn about trees. You see…

Trees start from something small, a tiny seed, and grow into something mighty. God wants us to have faith as small as a mustard seed so that He can do amazing and big things in our lives.

Trees are all different. God doesn’t want us to try and be like other people, He has made us all different and unique. Be proud of your uniqueness!

Trees are dependent on God for life. The water and sun come from God. God wants us to get to a point where we become fully dependent on Him for all our needs, without worrying or being anxious. We need to get to a point where we just trust He will provide all our needs.

Trees stand tall and their roots dig deep, real deep. God wants us to stand tall for Him and be rooted in Him. Standing on His word, so when the wind blows we will not be moved.

Trees look majestic and beautiful. God wants us to be beautiful on the inside and the outside. We are created in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Trees (some) bare fruits. God wants us to bear good fruit, the fruit of the Spirit. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and self-control.

Tress have so many purposes, to provide food, shelter, furniture, fuel for fire and warmth and the list goes on. God wants us to live our purpose. Despite what many people think and believe, we were ALL created with a purpose and we must go boldly and live out the purpose God has for our lives.

There are so many lessons to learn from a tree. So ask God to help you be that tree today.

Stand rooted in God, stand up tall knowing that you are a beautiful child of God, trust Him to provide for all your needs, grow in grace and beauty bearing all the fruits of God, live the purpose that God has for your lives.

Be that tree!

Keep smiling and God bless.
