Is it just a seed?

I’ve really been trying to grow more fruits and vegetables this year and as I watched our tomato plants begin to grow a thought came to me… A seed sitting in my hand is just a small seed. It’s usually small, may be black and lifeless.

Though, it’s small it has so much potential

But without the right environment,  it being nurtured correctly and given the right foods, sunlight,  water and nutrious soil it will forever only be a seed.

Let’s think about it for a moment, if you put a seed in soil but it has no water or sun it will not grow,  put it in a cup of water and leave it in a dark cupboard, it will not grow, put it outside in a pot in the sun with no soil or water and it still will not grow. Without the right balance it just won’t grow.

First that small,  lifeless seed needs to be buried under the ground. When you cover it up you protect it from being exposed to animals, birds and harsh weather and then you continue to provide it with the correct foods and environment. Finally you can sit back and watch how it flourishes…. painfully slow at first… the process can take a long time,  but eventually and at exactly the right time that seed grows into an enormous tree,  a beautiful flower or food fit for a king!

Our children are like seeds, small and helpless, but if we give them exactly what they need and feed them physically,  mentally,  emotionally and spiritually. … then we can watch them grow,  they will fulfil the purpose God has for them.

And the same way you must protect the seed by covering it over and burying it in the ground, we must also protect our children from the evils in this world.

We must remember this process is slow,  just like it is watching a plant grow from a seed. You don’t see a seed become a tree or flower over night, the same way you won’t see your child fulfil their purpose and be the boy or girl God has called them to be overnight either. But with tender, gentle, loving care your child will flourish and you  will reap what you have sown.

Our children may be small, but their potential is great!

So don’t despair,

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Keep smiling and God bless
